Cans for Kids brings Santa to disadvantaged

Since 2007, Ron and Dina Doucet have been collecting and recycling cans to raise money to buy gifts for kids. The Cans for Kids Project is an on-going year-round process. There are drop off points in Cahuita, Puerto Viejo, Penshurt, and Rio Banano. This year, they are asking for your help!

All of the money raised is used to buy as many gifts as possible and then deliver them to the children of communities most in need.  The children receive a gift from Santa addressed with his or her name, a juice, and a bag of candy. They can sit on Santa’s lap or stand with him and take pictures.

This year Cans for Kids is giving approximately 250 gifts. The group also held a charity poker tournament at The Point Bar and Grill in Puerto Viejo on December 3rd. It raised enough money to buy an additional 30 gifts. Several people also made cash donations, another first, which raised enough for about the same number of gifts. Cans for Kids plans to continue with quarterly tournaments and donations will always be welcomed.
