Puriscal readies its annual chicharrón festival

The Puriscal Feria Del Chicharrón opens Friday for a run until Dec. 14. As the name implies, the event is heavy with enough fried pork to make even the most apathetic cardiologist squirm.

The inauguration is at 5 p.m. Friday with a horse parade planned for 4 p.m. Saturday and those  wacky Costa Rican bull baitings this weekend and next.

Also planned are helicopter flights, a tree lighting and soccer matches.

Still, the principal attraction will be the chicharrones.

In Costa Rica these are chunks of pork, not the pork rind as is customary elsewhere. They go well with lemon juice and fried yuca. And beer. The location is the Puriscal fairgrounds. A program is HERE!
