Quake reported at mouth of gulf

The Laboratorio de Ingenieria Sismica said that a magnitude 4.0 earthquake took place today at 1:06 a.m. some 23.7 kilometers east southeast of Montezuma de Cóbano, Puntarenas.

That location estimated by the Universidad de Costa Rica lab would put the quake at the mouth of the gulf of Nicoya. This is a highly active area. Monitoring devices suggest that the quake was felt moderately in Jacó across the gulf and in Paquera on the peninsula.
