Refinery adding strategic storage tanks

The state petroleum monopoly says it is increasing its storage capacity as a strategic measure to guard against any human or natural disaster.

The firm, Refinadora Costarricense de Petróleo S.A., says it has invested 17 billion colons, some $32 million, in diverse projects, including three 100,000-barrel tanks at the Moín refinery for gasoline., diesel and bunker.

Also constructed are two similar storage tanks for jet fuel in Barranca.

Two older tanks are being dismantled and will be replaced by gasoline storage units.
