A robbery suspect believed to be about 16 died in a firefight with police after pedestrians were held up on the Caribbean coast, said the Judicial Investigating Organization.
The judicial police said events unfolded about 6 p.m. Sunday when individuals were robbed between Punta Uva and Manzanillo. Officers of the Policía Turística received information on the location of the robbery suspects and sought them in the mountains at San Rafael de Sixaola.
The judicial police said that the tourist officers were fired upon as they approached the suspects. They returned fire, and the youth suffered a fatal wound to the stomach, agents said. The other suspect fled, they said. The dead youth remains unidentified.
