The 1955 song “I’m getting nuttin’ for Christmas” is a reality for many disadvantaged Costa Rican youngsters. But once again it is the U.S. Marines to the rescue.
Toys for Tots ─ Juguetes Para Niños En Navidad is a non-profit foundation maintained by Marine Corps League Costa Rica to support the efforts of the U.S. Marine security detachment at the U.S. Embassy.
Just like Marines everywhere, the detachment and
the league distributed toys to 150 kids as part of the Semillitas de Amor or “seeds of Love” program.
The program has existed in the United States for 70 years as Toys for Tots, and expats who are members of the league are well acquainted with the Christmas efforts.
William Enell, commandant of the Marine Corps League Costa Rica, said readers can help to make a child’s dream a reality. The Marines may be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org. or email@example.com.
