Construction starts on new border crossing

Construction has started on a frontier post at the Las Tablillas border crossing in Los Chiles de Alajuela.

The border post is expected to be in service by April. The crossing will operate on a temporary basis then until more development takes place.

The central government sees the border crossing as an important transport link that will be used for cargo coming from the new Moín container handling terminal.

The opening of a bridge over the Rio San Juan in adjacent Nicaragua has created the need for the crossing for individuals, said the government.
