Container robberies squashed by police

A gang of bandits stuck up and tied up a guard at a trucking firm in Limón early Monday and then stole two tractor trailers bearing shipping containers.

Fuerza Pública reported the agency was able to stop one truck on Ruta 32 in Río Frio and also detain the occupants of an accompanying vehicle that was serving as an escort. A patrol car rammed that vehicle.

Other officers stopped the second vehicle in Santa Elena de San Isidro de Heredia. The driver of this vehicle managed to flee, they said.

In all four persons were detained, and at least two have prior criminal records, the police agency said.
