The finance ministry said Monday that the government ended 2014 with a deficit 5.6 percent of the total of all goods and services in the country.
The minister, Helio Fallas, said this was less than had been predicted in the national budget.
However, he noted that tax collection had decreased slightly. He said that with the application of policies that he has been mandating the deficit is now controlled.
He cited austerity in expenses and stronger efforts to collect taxes. And this was done, he said without reducing social spending.
