Judicial employee held in use of found debit card

Agents detained a Judicial Investigating Organization employee Monday morning on the allegation that she used a debit card she found.

The woman employee faces the loss of her job as well as a criminal prosecution, the judicial agency said.

The employee found a debit card in Cartago Dec. 9 and then used it twice at a supermarket to purchase goods amounting to 20,000 colons, less than $40, the agency alleges.

The agency did not identify the woman’s job title, but she is not believed to be an investigator. The allegation is fraud, which amounts to a felony here.

Judicial police said they have video showing the woman using the card in a supermarket in San Nicolás de Cartago.

Detained judicial employee is led to prosecutors.
