Inspectors catch faulty fire alarm system

The nations regulatory agency reported Friday that a routine inspection discovered faults in the fire protection system at the Gas Tomza liquid petroleum firm in Cartago. The agency, the Autoridad Reguladora de Servicios Públicos, said that the discovery was Thursday.

A fire agency technician traced the problem to the electrical panels that operate the system, said the regulating agency. Leaks and fires would not be detected, said the agency. The company puts liquid petroleum gas into marketable containers at the plant.

Autoridad Reguladora said it alerted the Ministerio de Ambiente y Energía. which contains the Dirección General de Transporte y Comercialización de Combustibles.

The gas firm faces a possible fine because of the outage, said the Autoridad Reguladora.
