More carbon neutral firms sought

The economics ministry is seeking to increase the number of private firms that are officially carbon neutral.

The ministry said Monday that business leaders in conjunction with the government were promoting an Alianza para la Carbono Neutralidad. Among other goals is to increase the importance of the carbon neutral designation.

So far some 21 firms have been certified as carbon neutral, said the Ministerio de Economía, Industria y Comercio.

Part of the plan is to offer training so that employees of firms can calculate the emissions of carbon dioxide. The Instituto de Normas Técnicas de Costa Rica is a private firm that eventually calculates the emissions from a firm.
