Police, investigators and prosecutors conducted 11 raids Wednesday to detain eight persons they said were linked to a cocaine and money laundering operation.
Seven members of the organization, truck drivers, had been detained already at the Peñas Blancas border crossing, elsewhere in the northern zone and in Nicaragua.
The organization managed a fleet of trucks with hidden compartments into which cocaine was hidden to fool police at the border. The gang would carry cocaine north through Central America and return with currency also hidden in the compartments.
Investigators said they confiscated earlier nearly 900 kilos of cocaine and $442,281.
Raids Wednesday were in San José, Alajuela, Cartago and Heredia.
The trucks were housed in Liberia. Officials said the investigation had been going on since 2013.
