Puntarenas carnival OK expected

Anyone trying to follow the on-again, off-again Carnavales Puntarenas 2015 is sure to get motion sickness.

There is a good chance, but not certain, that the carnival is on. Organizers began the event last weekend without approval from the health ministry.

The regional health inspectors closed the carnival and applied the appropriate seals.

Meanwhile, the Ministerio de Seguridad Público has a separate issue. Just 50 private security guards had been hired for a major concert Saturday. That issue was resolved Thursday when two security companies promised 150 guards would be on duty.

That approval from the security ministry is expected to carry weight with the health ministry in a meeting today. Carnival organizers are expecting to be allowed to function, but they still face possible sanctions for beginning the event last weekend without approval.
