Victim recovered from 3-hour express kidnapping

The manager of a shoe store in the capital became the latest victim of an express kidnapping Sunday.

The man was abducted about 6 p.m. while walking with other individuals. He was hustled into a vehicle.

The victim later told investigators that he was taken to various points in San José and then to Cartago in an effort to collect money from his family.

The abductors sought a mere 100,000 colons, less than $200, from the man’s family. But they also asked for $3 million colons, about $5,640, from the owners of the shoe store.

Investigators caught up with the vehicle about 9 p.m. in Ochomogo and found the store manager and two suspects inside.
