A woman who said she was a victim of domestic violence died Monday when she suffered 22 slashes with a machete.
Fuerza Pública officers and judicial investigators detained her partner Tuesday.
The 20-year-old woman and the man who became a suspect in her murder were visiting friends in Nazareth de Upala, said law officers. The woman declined to return home Monday evening and said she feared domestic violence.
Police said a discussion between the woman and her partner ensued on the patio of the home. That is where she was cut down with multiple machete blows, said the Fuerza Pública.
The suspect, later identified by the last name of Solano, fled into the adjacent woods. Tuesday the Judicial Investigating Organization and the Fuerza Pública used trained dogs to locate him around 1 p.m. in a wooded area in San Antonio de Upala. Officers said they thought he was trying to cross the border into nearby Nicaragua.
