The country’s ambassador to Venezuela has been sacked because of comments he made in an interview with the Spanish-language daily La Nación.
He is Federico Picado. The foreign ministry announced the decision Wednesday night and said that the minister, Manuel A. González, and the president made the decision.
The dismissal date is Wednesday. González said the ambassador should have consulted the ministry before doing the interview. In fact, the ambassador made laudatory comments about Venezuela that differed from Costa Rica’s official position.
