Quake rattles middle of country

A 4.7 magnitude earthquake took place today at 3:09 a.m. The epicenter was less than a kilometer west northwest of Vara Blanca de Heredia. That area has had  a swarm of smaller quakes in the past month.

The quake was felt in the Central Valley, as far north as the Nicaraguan border and as far west as Jacó, according to the Laboratorio de Ingeniería Sísmica at the Universidad de Costa Rica.
