Tax agents said they conducted a sweep of Guanacaste last week and found 104 violations. The Dirección General de Tributación and the Policía de Control Fiscal said they even found two businesses that were not even registered as taxpayers.
The sweep targeted bars, restaurants, stores, supermarkets, beauty salons, veterinarians, pharmacies, jewelry shops and casinos.
Of the 176 businesses checked, 86 did not issue authorized facturas or receipts, the tax agency said. The tax police also made confiscation of merchandise at 12 locations.
The sweep was in Santa Cruz, Nicoya, Liberia and Carrillo.
