A legislative committee has reported out a 60 billion-colon cut in the current budget.
But the proposed reduction is not without criticism. The cuts would reduce the budgets of Educación, Salud, Justicia, the Tribunal Supremo de Elecciones and the Judiciary. The amount is about $114 million.
Rocío Sáenz Madrigal, who now is the executive director of the Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social, said the proposed $12 million cut in her agency would affect the nation’s effort to crack down on tobacco.
