A tragedy in the ocean off Bahamas has illuminated another route used by illegal aliens to enter the United States.
The tragedy was the death of three Costa Ricans who were onboard a small boat trying to reach the United States.
The foreign ministry confirmed the deaths Monday and said that a survivor was in contact with the Costa Rican honorary consul in Nassau, Bahamas, in order to obtain documents so he could return home.
The dead Costa Ricans were identified by the last names of Alfaro and Garbanzo, wife and husband, and a companion, Ruiz.
The traditional route to the United States is over land, but criminality and the dangerous passage over the desert in northern México and the southern United States have dissuaded many from traveling that way.
