Insurance head moves to Casa Presidencial

Sergio Alfaro Salas will take over as the minister of the Presidencia as of May 1, Casa Presidencial said Friday. He replaces Melvin Jiménez, the former Lutheran bishop.

Alfaro, 44, is executive director of the Instituto Nacional de Seguros and is a former lawmaker. Alfaro also is a lawyer and has served in government in the past.

He is expected to develop a better relationship with lawmakers so that President Luis Guillermo Solís can win passage of key legislation.
