A gang of crooks has been targeting foreign investors with promises of profitable business deals and a good interest rate. When the investor appears, the gang kidnaps him and seeks a ransom.
The Judicial Investigating Organization said that the gang preyed mainly on Mexican investors who were lured to the country.
One was freed Friday night, and three persons were detained by judicial investigators. The Mexican victim has been held since April 11, and the kidnappers sought a $50,000 ransom, said agents.
Agents grabbed one suspect in Alajuela. They said the victim was being moved to another location. From that detention, agents said they were able to locate two other suspects at their homes.
Agents said they may be seeking other suspects.
