A Curridabat man faces an allegation that he lured a 14-year-old into his home and raped her. And in Canalete de Upala, an educator faces at least nine allegations of sexually abusing girls 10 and 11.
Both cases were reported Monday by the Judicial Investigating Organization.
In the Curridabat case, a neighbor is being credited with spotting the man bringing the girl into his home.
The suspicious neighbor called police.
The Judicial Investigating Organization said that the 42-year-old man met the girl through an unspecified social network while pretending to be a boy of similar age.
The man invited the girl to his home and told her when they met to pick her up that he was a family member of the boy who arranged the meeting, said agents.
That was Friday.
Fuerza Pública officers responded and called judicial police when the girl said she had been raped. Police immediately detained the man. Later judicial agents conducted a search of the suspect’s home and located a cell telephone and electronic equipment that were impounded as evidence.
The judicial agency said that the man has been remanded to prison for two months preventative detention. Agents also urged any other woman or girl who has been similarly victimized to come forward. They also urged parents to keep an eye on the social networking of minors.
The case in Upala involves actions from the end of last year into this year. The 46-year-old man was detained Monday morning. The allegations involve improper touching of the students rather than sexual intercourse.
