The country is in the midst of a population boom. While the public awaits the birth of sextuplets in Hospital México, a woman delivered quadruplets at Hospital Calderón Guardia Thursday.
That was enough new material for the local television stations to bolster their daily sextuplet coverage.
The 34-year-old woman in Hospital México completes her 27th week of pregnancy today.
The births at Calderón came in the 27th and a half week. The births were by caesarian, as the Hospital México births are expected to be.
A team of physicians and nurses from a handful of the nation’s public hospitals are standing by at Hospital Mexico and they are said to be training with simulations each day. The plan is to take most of the newborns to other hospitals where they can receive close attention.
The Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social will be under observation by the entire country, so the government institution is taking no chances.
