Bandit kills store operator in struggle

A store operator suffered a fatal bullet wound when he struggled with a robber Wednesday night, said the Judicial Investigating Organization.

The 42-year-old man and his son were in the food store in Concepción Arriba de Alajuelita about 7 p.m. when the bandit arrived on a motorcycle and appeared to be a shopper, agents said.

The bandit then pulled a firearm, which is what caused the struggle.

The store owner, who had the last name of Huiwan, died at the Clínica de Alajuelita a short time later due to the bullet wound in the chest, said agents.
