Five persons detained in a string of thefts from bus passengers

Judicial agents are attributing at least 40 thefts from bus passengers to the man and four women who were detained Thursday.

Agents said that 40 of the 152 thefts that have been reported in the Central Valley since the first of the year involved the same methods.

Agents said that a woman would drop eyeglasses or some other object to block the exit of bus passengers. While the individuals crowded together, wallets, cell phones and other items were lifted from persons who had been spotted previously, agents said.

Crimes have been reported in  Cartago, Alajuela and Heredia. Agents said they expected that there are many more than have not been reported.
