Mom accused of burning her son with iron

A 38-year-old mother of two is accused of burning her 8-year-old son with a hot iron. The boy suffered first- and second-degree burns on a leg, said the Poder Judicial.

The burn was delivered May 12, but a teacher brought the case to the attention of investigators and first aid workers Friday. The child suffered a slight blow while playing at school, and when the educator checked to see if there was an injury, he discovered the burn, agents said.

Cruz Roja workers took the child first to the Barranca clinic near his home. He now is in the burn unit at the Hospital Nacional de Niños. A 3-year-old sister has been placed with the Patronato Nacional de Infancia, said investigators.
