Sala IV incineration decision praised

The Federación Conservacionista de Costa Rica is applauding a Sala IV constitutional court ruling that upheld a decree that put a moratorium on incinerating trash.

The federation said that incineration projects are planned for at least these 12  locations: Carillo, Cañas, Abangares, Parrita, San Carlos, Alajuela, Atenas, the metro area, Barranca, León Cortés and Goicoechea.

The organization opposes incineration because it would prefer to recycle trash. In addition it cites the carbon release of incineration.

Despite the Sala IV ruling, there still exits a case in the  Tribunal Contencioso Administrativo seeking to overturn the moratorium, the federation noted.
