A 10 year old in La Cuesta de Corredores died Monday when he was caught in gun fire directed at anti-drug agents.
The child was in the wrong place at the wrong time, agents said, noting that he was not involved in the police action.
Agents of the Policía de Control de Drogas were in the southern Costa Rican community in an effort to break up a major drug ring, the security ministry said. Men in a vehicle came by and fired on the officers, the ministry said.
Two agents were injured but not critically, a report noted. The ministry mounted a major effort to locate those who fired on the agents, it said.
