An organization of sex workers said Monday that they were demanding respect from those providing medical services and from police.
The organization is La Asociación La Sala, which presented grievances at the legislature.
Sex workers face violence every day, and this violence manifest itself as discrimination, stigmatization, bad treatment at health centers, and police repression, said the organization in a release.
The organization noted that today is the international day of the sex worker because it is the anniversary of a 1975 French protest by prostitutes there.
Ms. Ordoñez was quoted as saying that women are free to decide about their own bodies and that they have fundamental rights that they will not surrender.
