There may be some good news for farmers and ranchers on the Pacific coast.
A low pressure area has formed offshore, and the Instituto Meteorológico Nacional predicts possible rain early today. The forecast is more certain of rain this afternoon along the Pacific coast, the northern zone and the mountains of the Caribbean coast.
There was rain up to 15 milimeters Monday on the Nicoya peninsula, said the weather service. That is a bit more than half an inch.
At 6 p.m. the institute was predicting perhaps twice as much rain overnight in the southern Pacific along with thunder and lightning.
