A legislative committee approved and sent to the full body Wednesday a proposal for a dedicated tax to support the Cruz Roja.
The action came in the Comisión Permanente de Asuntos Hacendarios on bill No. 19.234.
The measure also would increase the cost of the Cruz Roja legal stamps that are required on most documents from 200 colons to 500. The tax would be 1 percent on all the country’s telephone bills.
Despite the general sentiment against taxation n the legislature, the measure is likely to pass because of the popularity of the Cruz Roja, the nation’s emergency service.
