July 4 picnic brings out 2,500 expats and friends

The American Colony Committee reports about 2,500 persons attended the July 4 picnic Saturday.

Charles Turner, committee president, gave that report Sunday night, and said that the total includes volunteers, special guests, sponsors, donors and U.S. citizens and Costa Rican friends who paid an admission.

The total compares favorably with picnics in other years. There had been some concern that because the day was a Saturday attendance might be down because expats have other activities.

The weather cooperated with blue skies with a few clouds over the Cervercería Costa Rica grounds west of San José.

The picnic is likely to be on July 4 again next year because that day in 2016 falls on a Monday, thanks to leap year. The committee sometimes has difficulty in obtaining use of the picnic grounds because Cervercería Costa Rica uses the facilities for its employees on Sundays.
