The atmosphere still is unstable even though another one of those tropical waves has passed over and left the country.
The Instituto Meteorológico Nacional said it expects cloudy skies this morning with downpours and electrical storms in the central and south Pacific in the afternoon. Some rain is predicted for the Central Valley, the Nicoya peninsula and the mountains of the Caribbean and the northern zone, the institute said.
As the tropical wave, a trough of low pressure, passed over the country Monday, there were heavy afternoon rains. The institute said that its sensors counted 150 lighting strikes in the metro area.
Rainfall ranged from a little over an inch to nearly twice that in the Central Valley and Limón. In San José the rains stopped about 4 p.m.
