Rule proposed for digital television logo

The nation’s telecommunications agency has presented for public consideration

rules for the use of an official logo on televisions that can receive digital programming.

Costa Rica is moving toward digital broadcasting, and the logo will be used in retail stores to show that a television set is compatible. The rules will be open Printfor public comment until Sept. 4. Previous decrees specified that retailers had to handle digital sets.

Costa Rica has chosen to use the ISDB‐Tb, standard, which usually is considered the Brazilian technology that is in use in many Latin American countries.
