Tax treaty with Germany receives its first positive vote in legislature

A tax treaty with Germany received the first of two approvals from the Asamblea Legislativa Thursday. The bill, when passed a second time and signed by President Luis Guilermo Solís will avoid double taxation of Costa Ricans in Germany and Germans in Costa Rica.

Such treaties are pretty standard, and Costa Rica has a number with countries of the world.

However, one lawmaker, Gerardo Vargas Varela, objected and voted no. He said that by approving the bill Costa Rica would lose tax money.
