Windmill power project reviewed for profitability

The fate of the wind farm Parque Eólico Valle Central depends on a rigorous economic evaluation, according to the Compañía Nacional de Fuerza y Luz S.A.

The wind farm received low marks for profitability in a recent report by the  Contraloría General de República.

The power company said that the array of windmills is producing less than 75 percent of the goal for 2015.

In addition, the company said it has decided not to continue with two other projects, San Buenaventura and Ciruelas, because feasibility studies do not show they will be profitable.

The company made the announcement in the name of its general manager,  Víctor Solís Rodríguez.

He was quoted as saying that the future of the wind power generating project was up in the air.

The Parque Eólico Valle Central went into operation in December 2012.
