The Día del Niño comes early this year. Many celebrations are this weekend instead of the designated day, which is Wednesday.
The Museo Nacional plans a Festival de la Niñez 2015 Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The program contains puppets, movies, stories and theater. The Orquesta La Libertad will perform. This is a musical organization from the Escuela de Música of the national music system in Desamparados.
The festival, which is free for Costa Ricans and residents, also will include food, raffles and displays of crafts, said the Ministerio de Cultura y Juventud, which operates the museum.
The Teatro Popular Melico Salazar plans a festival for children that lasts the entire month. It begins Wednesday.
The Compañía Nacional de Teatro will present “Tío Conejo Trinquetero” Wednesday, next Thursday and Sept. 11 and 16 at 10 a.m. and Sept. 12 and 13 at 3 p.m. at the theater.
The Compañía Nacional de Danza presents “Toc, toc, toc… una mirada al revés” Sept. 19 and 20, also at the theater.
Admission is a token 500 colons, the theater said in an announcement.
Both the dance and theater companies will be bringing their performances to other parts of the country, said the theater. An estimated 4,000 youngsters will see the performances, the theater said.
The Museo Histórico Cultural Juan Santamaría in Alajuela also plans a children’s festival, starting today with a puppet show at 9:30 a.m.
