Gunmen on motorcycles cut down a taxi driver in an afternoon assassination on a heavily traveled street in Barrio México.
The dead taxi driver was identified by the last name of Martínez. His fare, believed to be a foreign tourist, was not hurt. The location was just five blocks north of the Hospital del Niños.
The Judicial Investigating Organization said that the driver had just pulled up to a stop sign about 1:20 p.m. when teams of two men on two motorcycles appeared and fired on him multiple times. The man died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds.
There was no attempt to rob the victim, who was 51 years old. He became the latest in a wave of what appears to be contract killings in the metro area.
