Traffic nightmare possible today in central San José

Today would be a good day to stay out of the downtown. Municipal officials said that workers will be repairing Avenida Central along the north side of the Plaza de la Democracia, and the road will be closed.

This is one of the major streets in the city that carries all the buses from the east. Bus stops also will be moved to Calle 7 and a location on Avenida Segunda.

Although traffic police are urging motorists to consider other routes, there are not many.

Those who miss a traffic jam today will have a second chance Saturday when workmen will be making repairs to the Juan Pablo II bridge in La Uruca. This is on the heavily traveled Interamericana. Some lanes are expected to be closed.
