Man accused of robbing pedestrians

Judicial agents have detained a man they say has committed at least 10 street robberies.

The 31-year-old man was detained near his residence in Tejacillos de Alajuelita. Agents said they tracked the man down due to the type of vehicle he drove and reports from victims.

Agents alleged that this was the man who cruised the streets and would stop to ask pedestrians for directions. Once they neared the vehicle, the robber would threaten them by saying he had a gun. He then ordered them into the vehicle where a second man in the back seat would take their belongings, agents said.

The crimes took place between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. in  San José, Santa Ana, Desamparados and Aserrí.

Agents said that when the man was detained they recovered a briefcase that had just been taken from a robbery victim. They expect to hear from more victims.
