Gunplay Sunday in a Pavas neighborhood brought complaints from neighbors and a beefed up police presence.
Despite more police, shooting broke out again Monday in what police later said appeared to be two gangs confronting one another.
The Fuerza Pública and the Judicial Investigating Organization responded in force Monday afternoon and flooded the area, known as Piedra del Indio in Rincón Grande de Pavas.
Police were unable to complete their most important mission. They said they wanted to confiscate weapons, but all they found were small quantities of drugs and some .38-caliber ammunition.
Still, they managed to detain eight persons including men presumed to be leaders of both gangs, said the Fuerza Pública. Still unclear is exactly what charges the men will face.
Fuerza Pública officers said that the show of force would continue for as long as needed.
