Trafficking stamp issued by Correos

Correos de Costa Rica has come out with a stamp to focus attention on trafficking in persons.

The issue is of 15,000 500-colon stamps and is part of an American postal union collection. The stamp shows silhouettes of four persons and a map of Costa Rica.

There also is a special postmark and 3,000 first-day covers.

Trafficking generally involves forcible relocation for prostitution or labor and commercial escorting of individuals, usually from one country to another.

There were just five cases reported in Costa Rica last year, according to the FundaciÛn Rahab, an organization supported partly by the U.S. government.
