Despite raids, kidnap victim still missing

Investigators say that an Heredia senior citizen was kidnapped for ransom because a family member lost a quantity of drugs.

Agents of the Judicial Investigating Organization staged seven raids and detained six persons Wednesday morning in Guápiles, Heredia, Guácimo and Tres Ríos.

The kidnap victim has the last name of  Bolaños. He is 71 and vanished Nov. 3. Despite the raids, agents have not located the kidnapped man, the agency said.

His family members told agents that they had been paying small sums to the kidnappers and had given them about $14,000 but that Bolaños has not been liberated. He is involved with industrial mechanics and left his home for his workplace in Santo Domingo de Heredia, said agents.

Agents confiscated two firearms and some 15 million colons in the raids, they said.

Five of the six made a court appearance Wednesday afternoon where prosecutors sought preventative detention.
