Forestry engineers promote cypress

Who says Christmas trees have to come from Canada or from a factory in China?

Not tree experts in the Escuela de Ingeniería Forestal of the Tecnológico de Costa Rica They are promoting the use of cypress, an evergreen that has been used for reforestation for at least 30 years.

The forestry school is conducting a tree fair at the soccer field in Llano Bonito de Naranjo. The event is called Feria Nacional del Árbol de Navidad.  The fair ends Sunday and repeats Dec. 4 to 6.

The object is to encourage the use of natural trees from Costa Rica, instead of the imported variety or artificial trees.
