Highway officials have decided to close the Circunvalación from San Pedro to Los Anonos from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. until further notice.
Crews started taking off the asphalt service of the key highway Monday night.
After the old surface is removed, crews will install new asphalt but the highway will not be closed completely, said the Consejo Nacional de Vialidad. That job will take three months with work from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Circunvalación is the four-lane highway that passes along the southern part of the capital. The work will close the highway from Zapote, San Sebastián, Alajuelita, the Hatillos to Los Anonos bridge, said the Consejo.
When the Circunvalación is closed, the best alternate route is through the San José downtown.
