For those who may want a little dose of the universe, the planetarium at the Universidad de Costa Rica has a mostly free event starting at 3 p.m. Friday.
This is the Noche de las estrellas 2015, an international event that includes a number of Spanish- and French-speaking countries.
The planetarium is in the university’s Ciudad de la Investigación, which is about 500 meters east of the point where the Calle de la Amargura reaches the campus in San Pedro. There is parking.
Seminars and discussions on space topics are between 3 p.m. and 5:40 p.m. The time overlaps a 5 p.m. workshop on telescopes.
At sundown telescopes will be in use
outside the planetarium. Inside there is a digital projection at 6 p.m. The show on the planetarium’s dome is the only part of the event that has an admission. It is 2,000 colons, about $4, and reservations are requested at 2511-2580.
The night to watch the stars began in 1993 and now is observed in 400 locations.
