Vice President Ana Helena Chacón is in the United Arab Emirates today and Tuesday attending a summit on protecting children from the Internet.
The event is We Protect Children Online 2015, sponsored by the Middle Eastern country and the United Kingdom, said Casa Presidencial.
The goal is to eliminate sexual exploitation of children by means of the Internet, said the presidential summary, which also noted that the costs are being born by the organizers of the conference.
Representatives of some 50 counties are expected to attend today and Tuesday.
In a statement, the vice president was quoted saying that Costa Rica, which depends on tourism, centers much effort in the fight against organized crime that promotes sexual tourism on line which is a flagrant exploitation of children.
Costa Rica has launched a Web site designed to attract persons interested in sexual encounters with the young. The site ends up telling them of the penalties.
