17 residents extracted from an informal and unlicensed rest home

Judicial agents extracted 17 senior citizens from an unlicensed home in Cocorí, Agua Caliente de Cartago, Tuesday and said that they were not receiving adequate care.

Agents also detained the 65-year-old operator of what appears to be an informal rest home. She faces an allegation of exploiting her charges, who range in age from 50 to 80, said the Judicial Investigating Organization.

Agents claim that she did not use the money she was given to take care of the residents.

There were 13 men and four women. After agents arrived, four men and two women went to Hospital Max Peralta for evaluation. The rest were put in the care of the Consejo Nacional de la Persona Adulta Mayor.

Agents said they acted on confidential information about the home. They said that such an operation needs to be licensed.
